Department of English Studies

Part-time, Evening & Summer Degrees

Student

As part of its commitment to flexible study, the Department offers a wide range of modules in the evening for both part-time and full-time undergraduate students.

Evening Degree Programme

Evening modules have the same standing within the degree as the daytime modules to which they correspond and the same, or very similar, content and assessment arrangements. In English Studies, the only significant difference between an evening module and the corresponding daytime module is that the classes meet only once a week, normally for a three hour session, divided into periods of lectures and tutorials over the course of the evening.  Unless otherwise stated, each evening module is worth 22 SCQF credits.  Please refer to the Undergraduate Calendar subject entry for full details.

Availability to full-time undergraduates

Full-time undergraduate students may enrol for evening modules, though priority for enrolment will be given to part-time students. It should be noted that an evening module can only be taken by a full-time undergraduate as part of a normal programme of study; it cannot be taken as an extra module to accelerate progress in any way.

Students who register for an evening module are not permitted to attend classes in the equivalent daytime module, and the normal attendance requirements must be fulfilled.

The following evening modules will run in the 2009-10 session.

Note that the module descriptions which appear at the the links below are for the daytime equivalent of each evening course (e.g. ENG911 for ENG811). The rationale, set texts and assessment for the evening modules are identical to these. Once you have clicked on a module code, you will have to use the 'Back' function on your web-browser to return to this Evening Degree menu.

Part-Time Studies

Most degrees offered by the Department, both undergraduate and postgraduate, are available to study part-time. Enquiries regarding part-time postgraduate study should be made to the directors of individual taught programmes; contact the departmental administrator Jacqui Harrop (jacqui.harrop@stir.ac.uk) regarding part-time undergraduate studies.
