University art - text reads - did you know The Department's Centre for Commonwealth Studies was one of the first in the UK.

Postgraduate students make a vital contribution to the intellectual life of the Department, and are thoroughly involved in research activities such as departmental seminars and conferences. The annual postgraduate conference highlights this contribution, and allows postgraduates to disseminate the fruits of their research to a mixed audience of English Studies staff and students.

Corridor

Intensive, self-directed study can be isolating, so the large and welcoming postgraduate community in the Department also provides an important social network.
