These fellowships enable Indian academics, writers and artists to spend time in a university or other institution for up to three months. Up to 9 Fellowships have been agreed with British Universities and other institutions. The Fellowship should be of benefit to both parties and the Fellow is expected to contribute to the life of the host institution. Selection is made by agreement between the host institution and the Trust, in some cases with the help of the British Council.
Under this programme there are opportunities for two writers-in-residence, an artist-in-residence, a translator-in-residence as well as for fellowships in Contemporary Asian Studies, Contemporary South Asian Studies, Modern Indian History, Social Anthropology, Journalism and Visual Art.
Stirling has hosted a Creative Writing Fellowship since 1994. Fellows are encouraged to contribute to the activities of the Centre of Commonwealth Studies, the Department of English Studies, and the postgraduate programme, M.Litt in Postcolonial Diasporas.
