* NB - this table includes links to information sheets for modules running in both the 2010-11 academic session, and the 2011-12 session (for which students begin registration in May 2011). This final column indicates whether the information sheet downoadable via the module code is for 'this year' or 'next year'; info sheets for 'this year' (the current session) appear in italics (e.g. Spr 2011). 'This year's' info sheets give a clear indication of what the relevant module will most likely involve 'next year', but students should await the appearance of the updated info sheet before purchasing set texts.

Core Modules

Core modules are taught by 2 hours of lecture per week, and 1 hour of tutorial. They cover a wide range of texts and ideas in an accessible and exciting way.

Optional Core Modules

Optional Core modules are taught by either 1 or 2 hour-long lectures and 1 hour of tutorial per week. They begin to refine your knowledge of particular historical periods of writing, or your sense of how literature can be approached from distinct theoretical angles.

Option Seminars

Option Seminars are taught in 2-hour weekly seminars, and involve a greater degree of class discussion than previous tutorials. These courses focus on specific topics — exploring a literary genre, an individual author, or a distinct branch of literary theory, for example. Note that the range of optional seminars offered will vary from year to year; be sure to check which semester the module is running in.

'Please note that each creative writing module is taught as a one-hour seminar plus a one-hour workshop every week.'
